Avnet Embedded announces customized glass touch solutions with slim frame for narrow bezel displays

Stutensee, Germany – October, 2022 – Avnet Embedded, leading provider of embedded display technology, today announces the availability of new complete touchscreen solutions with a very slim frame. The customized touchscreens were developed in response to customer needs for a new generation of high quality industrial human machine interfaces (HMIs) with narrow bezel displays.

Avnet Embedded uses a molybdenum aluminum molybdenum (MAM) technology instead of the traditional silver-based process for its innovative glass touch solutions with slim frame. The MAM material has higher conductivity than silver and allows use of a fine pitch of 25/25µm. This means that the size of the frame of the glass touch is only about one quarter of the frame size of a conventional touch screen.

An additional key advantage of the MAM material is its wide operating temperature range, from -40 to +90°C (240 hours). Silver-based solutions, on the other hand, can only be used in the range from -30 to +80°C (240 hours).

The ability to operate at low or high temperatures opens up a range of additional innovative applications for the PCAP glass touch solutions with slim frame in areas including:

  • Outdoor/public screens
  • Numerous automotive applications, for example charging stations for electric vehicles
  • Medical devices
  • Displays for devices where space is restricted

Tim Jensen, Senior Director of Embedded Product Innovation at Avnet Embedded, said: “Development of this new touch system technology demonstrates Avnet Embedded’s cutting edge technical expertise as well its close collaborative relationship with display component manufacturers. With this new technology, we can offer customers the ability to build truly impressive new products, giving them the edge over their competition.”

Avnet Embedded supports its customers from initial design to full system integration. Special requirements of the application, such as compact housing, special operability and robustness, can be taken into consideration. After approval of the solution concept, first samples are available within six to eight weeks. Experience has shown that production of larger quantities of the display/touch systems can start six months after project commencement. In addition to displays and touch solutions, Avnet Embedded can also provide embedded computing solutions, and integrate display, compute and other peripherals into a full system ready to be integrated into a customer product.
