Over 100 years of technology innovation
Avnet Embedded is the in-house solutions arm of Avnet that combines design expertise with world-class manufacturing and assembly to enable OEMs to get innovative, high quality products to market quickly.
Businesses that need a dependable solution to manufacture highly complex, high risk industrial products rely on Avnet Embedded to bring world-class design and manufacturing expertise together to take on production so businesses can focus their resources on their core innovation.
Avnet Embedded’s history dates all the way back to 1895, when its oldest production line opened in Freiburg, Germany. This production line originally made medical components, and 125 years later we are still making medical equipment on the same site. Today, Avnet Embedded operates technology campuses on three continents, supplying some of the world’s biggest brands with the technology that they need to stay ahead of the game.
Avnet Embedded’s innovation focuses on three core disciplines: computing, displays and software. By combining design and production expertise in all three, Avnet Embedded is unparalleled in its capabilities to deliver full-scale HMI (human machine interface) technology.
Our Freiburg facility is opened in southern Germany by one of Avnet Embedded’s progenitors. It began producing medical equipment components – a business relationship that is still a core part of our business today, 125 years later.
Avnet, the parent company of Avnet Embedded, is founded in New York in 1921 as a radio components wholesaler.
MSC Technologies GmbH was founded to meet the demand for industrial computing in the early 1980s. The site in central Germany is still Avnet Embedded’s global base of operations today, where we design and manufacture our award-winning /MSC range of embedded computing modules.
Avnet EMG Ltd, later to become Avnet Embedded, is founded in Europe.
Since 2006 Avnet Embedded (then MSC) has been an executive member of the PCI Computer Manufacturer Group (PICMG), and has been driving the development of new versions of the popular COM Express™ standard, and more recently the new COM-HPC standard.
Avnet Embedded (then MSC Technologies) becomes a founding member of SGeT, the Standardization Group for Embedded Technologies, in Munich.
Avnet completes purchase of MSC, Avnet Embedded’s precursor.
MSC Technologies is merged with Avnet Embedded to become Avnet Integrated, combining compute, display, software and server solutions under one roof.
Avnet Embedded becomes the new go-to-market brand name for the former compute, display and software business of MSC Technologies, Witekio and Avnet Integrated.
