Avnet Embedded integrates new i.MX 93 processor technology from NXP™ Semiconductors into SMARC™ module family

Stutensee, Germany – June, 2022 – Avnet Embedded announces at embedded world 2022 that the leading provider of embedded computing modules is supporting the new i.MX 93 Applications Processor family from NXP™ Semiconductors on the latest SMARC 2.1.1™ form factor. The first MSC SM2S-IMX93 module family expands Avnet Embedded’s very extensive SMARC 2.1.1™ portfolio based on i.MX 8 or i.MX 6 processors from NXP with latest i.MX 9 Series technology.

Jens Plachetka, Manager Board Platforms, Avnet Embedded, says, “As one of the early access partners for the new i.MX 93 Applications Processor, we continue our longstanding cooperation with NXP. Based on our early access to the new processor technology and our in-depth expertise in designing and manufacturing high-performance embedded solutions, we are able to design the new SMARC module and provide initial samples to our customers within a short period of time. Our customers can then immediately start development of their future products and bring them to market quickly.”

NXP™ Semiconductors’s i.MX 93 Applications Processors integrate the scalable ARM Cortex-A55 core, bringing performance and energy efficiency to Linux®-based edge applications and the ARM Ethos-U65 microNPU, enabling developers to create more capable, cost-effective and energy-efficient machine learning (ML) applications. The i.MX 93 processors deliver advanced security with integrated EdgeLock® secure enclave to support energy-efficient edge computing.

Typical applications of the MSC SM2S-IMX93 SMARC 2.1.1™ module family include industrial automation (industrial HMI, machine vision and control, gateways), smart home and building automation (heat pumps, thermostat, security), industrial transport and grid infrastructure (EV charging, environmental control, energy meter).

Avnet Embedded provides a complete ecosystem such as starter kits, board support packages (BSPs) and comprehensive design services. The company develops all embedded modules in its Technology Campuses. The products are manufactured in large quantities in highly automated production facilities in Germany.
