Avnet Embedded brings full Windows® 10 IoT to its ARM®-based SMARC™ modules with NXP i.MX 8M SoCs
Nuremberg, Germany – June, 2022 – In Hall 3A, Booth 111 (Avnet Silica) at embedded world 2022, Avnet Embedded is showing a demonstration featuring an ARM®-based embedded compute module integrating an i.MX 8M processor from NXP™ Semiconductors running the full Microsoft Windows® 10 IoT Enterprise operating system.
The full Windows® 10 application runs on Avnet Embedded’s ARM® module without modification, for example re-compilation or re-writing. In the past, only a subset of Windows® on ARM® was available with Windows® IoT Core, Windows® CE / Compact or Windows® RT.
The advantage is that customers can easily install Windows® 10 IoT Enterprise on Avnet Embedded ARM®-based SMARC™ module families with i.MX 8 and do not have to deal with adaptation of the operating system. Avnet Embedded has taken over the task to get operating systems like Windows® running on module families designed and manufactured in-house.
The demonstration consists of the SimpleFlex carrier board MSC SM2S-MB-EP5 with the MSC SM2S-IMX8M SMARC™ module running the full Windows® 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 operating system. The compact MSC SM2S-IMX8M module integrates an i.MX 8M Quad processor from NXP™ Semiconductors. The board support package (BSP) has been adapted to Avnet Embedded’s SMARC™ modules by Witekio, an Avnet Embedded company and software specialist. The platform is attached to an HDMI touch display.
